Taiwanese vendor Acer has recently entered the European x86 server market using the Gateway brand it acquired in 2007. Gateway is perhaps best known as a US consumer focussed computer products company. Acer continues to market servers to the SoHo and small business sectors in the US under the Acer name.

Gateway has launched a full range of single and dual socket rack and tower servers running processors from both Intel and AMD aimed at the medium-sized business segment. The new EMEA Gateway server range, which is covered in detail in Competitive Profiles, includes the GR series of Rack servers with one, two or four processor sockets, the GT series of one and two socket tower servers as well as the Gemini range of highly scalable servers optimised for high density deployments.
GT Tower Servers
There are four models in the GT range, all supporting Intel processors, with two single socket servers and two dual socket servers.

Gemini Series Servers
Rounding off the Gateway server range is the Gemini series of servers designed for highly scaled implementations of high quantity, high density compute nodes. There are two models in the range, the 1U GW1000 F1 and the 2U GW2000h F1. The GW1000 F1 can house one or two dual socket Xeon nodes within its 1U rackmount chassis. There are three different nodes to choose from, which differ in the level of InfiniBand interconnect support. Each node has two sockets support two, four and six core Xeon 5500/5600 series processors up to 96GB of RAM. There are eight drive bays, four per node.
The GW2000h F1 by contrast is a 2U chassis with support for four nodes. The nodes are similar to those supported in the GW1000, all with the same processor and memory support. There are 12 drive bays, each node can access a maximum of six.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I have concentrated here on those products that Gateway details on its website. Note that most of these products only appeared there in recent weeks despite being announced months ago. It may take some time before Gateway reveal further details about their blade products

Gateway / Acer's March 2010 press release also listed new blade servers. The two specific models mentioned were 2-socket and 4-socket Opteron blades. I don't see further reference to them on the UK web site, nor any mention of Xeon-based blades.
